The figure of Paolo Venini (1895-1959) in his important role of enlightened and creative entrepreneur, will be protagonist on the 16th February 2016 of an international conference at the Fondazione Giorgio Cini, coordinated by the Glass Study Centre. Skilled director of his company, careful both to the artistic trends of his time and to the needs of the international market, especially during the Fifties, Paolo Venini also acted creating new series of glasses. Tracing the history of the Murano glassware, one of the fundamental insights of Paolo Venini will be highlighted, which was to match the modernization of the company catalog through new and refined lines while enhancing the traditional techniques and crafts.

The interventions will focus on the collaboration with new actors, including international ones, of which Paolo Venini took advantage since the mid-thirties, such as the Swedish ceramist Tyra Lundgren known for its fun "bestiary". Also the works created after World War II, during a collaboration with the architect Gio Ponti, will be then analysed and compared, toghether with the production of the second half of the Twentieth Century during the close cooperation with the designer Piero Fornasetti, and the painters Riccardo Licata and Eugene Berman. The great American exhibitions will be also retraced, considering then the relationship with Ken Scott and Charles Lin Tissot. A further contribution will be finally dedicated to architects Massimo Vignelli and Tobia Scarpa, who were always present during Venini life.
